Although hundreds of years old, under the hands of Sibiu artist Romulus Cipariu, the cimbalom has a whole new and special value in its history. Appreciated all over the world for his unique musical experiments, the young musician is one of the founders of the DOMINO band from Sibiu, with whom he has performed on numerous stages in Romania and abroad. He was recently invited to Norway, where he collaborated with Kristofer Hivju, known from shows such as Game of Thrones, Vikings and The Witcher, to record the actor's first music album.
The concert will be followed by a special outdoor screening of the documentary Buena Vista Social Club, directed by Wim Wenders in 1999. The Oscar-nominated and European Film Awards-winning film follows producer, songwriter and guitarist Ry Cooder's adventure to Cuba and his attempt to gather the country's best artists to record an album and pay tribute to the pre-Castro generation of musicians. Among the film's protagonists are iconic artists such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzales and even the legendary Eliades Ochoa, who has been invited to perform at TIFF on June 24th at Iulius Park Open Air.
